Celebrate Your Dog's Birthday With Dog-Friendly Cake!

How to make a dog birthday cake

If you’re a dog owner, chances are that at some point during your dog’s life, you have decided to throw them a birthday party. Here in the Me & My Pets office, we all agree that our pets are an integral part of our families. Some of us – naming no names – actually prefer our dogs to some of our human relatives. So it makes sense that we want to celebrate with them – the fact that they have absolutely no idea what’s going on is irrelevant. It’s party time!!

Dog birthday cake

Is normal cake safe for dogs?

After you’ve ordered the doggy party hats, it’s time to get baking. We’ve talked before about foods that are safe for dogs, but what about cake? We don’t advise feeding normal cake to your dogs. It can be high in sugar and might even have hidden chocolate or raisins in – all three of which can be seriously harmful to your dog’s health.

Instead, bake a dog-friendly cake at home! And the best part is, it actually tastes great, so you can enjoy the cake too!

Dog Cake Recipe

  • 1 egg
  • 60ml of veg oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 100g of honey
  • 1 grated carrot
  • 120g of whole or white flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • Combine egg, peanut butter, veg oil, vanilla, honey
  • Stir in grated carrot
  • Gradually add flour and baking soda until well combined
  • Bake at 170 degrees for 30 mins in a loaf tin (fan ovens may vary)

For the frosting: If your dog can tolerate a little bit of dairy then you can mix peanut butter with Greek yoghurt for a really tasty frosting! If your dog is totally dairy-free then go for pure peanut butter!

Dog party games

We have to make a special mention of our favourite dog party game. No doggy birthday party would be complete without it! It is the incredibly funny dog version of musical bumps. Put on some music and have everyone walk around the room with their dogs. Have someone press ‘pause’ and tell your dog to sit! The last one with its bum on the ground is out! Keep going until you have a winner. And why not get a lovely squeaky pig toy for the prize!

Brooklyn & Nala – Birthday Girls!

Two beautiful young boxers in the Me & My Pets Family celebrated their 2nd birthday! Sisters Brooklyn & Nala were treated to this delicious cake by their very generous mummy Sarah. Just look at the result! She would like us to mention that they were only given a small slice each – after they had licked the frosting off, of course!
